Meet Smile, a little rescue dog whose name was inspired by her perpetual grin.
Smile’s road hasn’t always been easy. She was born in a hoarder home in Tijuana, Mexico, and spent years without the love and attention she need. The brave canine was eventually rescued by No Dog Left Behind (NDLB), and she welcomed her new mates at the shelter with a wide smile.
Stephanie Easley, NDLB’s operations manager, stated in an interview, “She made the intake staff fall passionately in love.”
Smile was rescued from her Tijuana home together with 23 other canines by the At-Choo Foundation in Toluca Lake, California. All of the dogs were suffering from a painful skin illness, although Smile’s was less severe. Smile’s tale reached the NDLB team in Minnesota, and they felt she belonged there as soon as they saw her images.
“We fell in love with the hope we saw in her eyes,” NDLB said on Facebook. “Smile was supposed to come to our aid.”
NDLB used Mutt Mutt Engine to transport Smile from California to Minnesota. The dog was originally frightened and afraid, biting at the hands of her rescuers. They moved her gently from the vehicle to her new kennel, and she quickly warmed up to them.
“She felt much better after she got out of the van and not feeling backed into a corner,” Easley added. “She rolled into a ball and lay there, just watching the volunteers work.”
Smile had to be isolated owing to her skin condition, but that didn’t stop the rescue team from lavishing her with affection. In exchange, she’d give them her million-dollar grin.
“As I approached her kennel, she sat up and smiled to me,” Easley said. “It was at that very time that she won my heart.”
Easley instantly chose to foster Smile, providing a more comfortable environment for the expressive dog to heal while she searches for a future home.
Smile is now having the time of her life at home with Easley. The two spend the entire day together, beginning with a sweet morning wake-up call.
“She’s already staring at me and, of course, smiling the instant I open my eyes,” Easley added.
Smile’s life began with tragedy, but you’d never know it from the expression on her face. Apart from her continual smile, One can tell Smile is truly pleased by the sight in her eyes.
“What makes her the most amazing dog I’ve ever met is the real affection in her eyes,” Easley added. “They’re animated… Just simply glancing at them, you can tell what she’s thinking or feeling.”
She enjoys her time with Smile, but she is aware that their time together is fleeting.
“We love her with all of our hearts, but we realize we’re not the right fit for her,” Easley said. “My prayer is that she will be given a family who loves her as much as mine does, one that will make her smile and look at them with all the love in her eyes.”
Smile’s pals at NDLB know she’ll go to the perfect forever home once she’s fully recovered since she has numerous adoption applications pending.
“We will find her the folks she has been looking for her entire life,” Easley promised.
For the time being, the sweet puppy will spend her days in her wonderful foster home, snuggling up with her family and forgetting about the agony of the past.
“Smile is so tremendously appreciative and trusting, even with the agony and anguish,” NDLB wrote. “She knows things will get better from here.”
