Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship was nothing short of tumultuous, leading to a highly publicized and contentious court battle. Their relationship began on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011, shortly after Depp ended his long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis. Depp and Heard got engaged in 2014 and married a year later. However, just months into their marriage, Depp reportedly sustained a hand injury during a heated argument, allegedly involving broken bottles and windows.
Heard filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” and later wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in which she spoke about domestic abuse. Although she didn’t name Depp, it was widely assumed she was referring to him. The op-ed garnered widespread support for Heard, but it also had a significant impact on Depp’s career. He faced criticism for his role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and was ultimately dropped from his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow in 2018.
In response, Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard, claiming that he was the true victim of domestic abuse. The lawsuit detailed various incidents where Depp alleged that Heard physically assaulted him, including hitting, punching, and throwing objects at him, which caused severe injuries. Depp eventually won the case, and after losing millions and enduring a prolonged period out of work, he made a triumphant return to the big screen. At the Cannes 2023 premiere of Jeanne Du Barry, where Depp played King Louis XV, he received a seven-minute standing ovation. Fans, who had eagerly awaited his return, were emotional and overjoyed to see him back.
However, Depp recently worried fans when he shared on Instagram that he had suffered a fractured ankle. What started as a minor hairline fracture worsened as he traveled from Cannes to The Albert Hall. Depp explained that medical professionals advised him to avoid all activity for the time being, which forced him to cancel upcoming appearances in Boston, New Hampshire, and New York. Despite the setback, he promised fans an extraordinary show in Europe later in the year and assured them that he would make up for the missed performances on the East Coast this summer.
Fans expressed their concern and sent their best wishes to Depp. One fan noted, “The pain he bore on his face during the concert was evident. So this news doesn’t come as a surprise. I genuinely hope he takes ample rest during the remainder of his travels and upcoming performances. Take care, Johnny, we love you…”
After all he has endured over the past few years, Depp deserves to live his life to the fullest.
