There was a winter storm on its way. The team at Gateway Pet Guardians got a call about a pair of stray dogs living together in an abandoned house. They quickly sprang into action. All they wanted was to try and get the dogs safely into the care of the rescue before it hit if possible. Unfortunately, the dogs were scared and kept running from the rescuers. It took about 3 days and stuck in the middle of the storm. But finally, both dogs were safe and they discovered that one of the dogs in the couple was very pregnant.
The rescue decided to name them Papa Memphis and Norma Jean. They were hurried to make them feel safe and both dogs warmed up to their rescuers. They seemed so relieved to be somewhere out of the cold where they could welcome their baby puppies in peace.
Both were scared initially but once they were allowed to inside, they started to relax and became typical dogs again. They were stopped being scared and were loving and acting like any typical dog. With the storm two of the staff members stayed overnight because the roads were going to be bad for them to make it the next day. So they had to sleep with Norma on an air mattress.
After examining Norma, the rescuers got to know that she was going to have her puppies very soon. Before that day arrived the rescue decided to do a maternity shoot with the expecting mom and even invited papa Memphis to join too.
Both were excited to be out of the kennels and hanging out with their new favorite people. They relaxed into the shoot quickly posing and enjoying their time before their kids arrived.
It was not staged and they definitely enjoyed it. Because they were out of the kennel and got time to relax in the room with the photographer. Norma was comfortable with her bed during the shoot. Papa came and lay in front of her. There were lots of adorable photos.
Norma was all set to head to her foster home the next day, so she could have her puppies away from the shelter. But the puppies had another plan! The morning after the maternity shoot Norma had her puppies. Almost all of them were like Papa.
They live in the foster home now, and the family is living great. After done nursing, both puppies and Norma will be up for adoption. The rescuers are so thrilled, and grateful that they were able to rescue the expecting parents just in time.
