Arnold Schwarzenegger Admits He’s Uncomfortable with Death, Says He’ll ‘Miss Everything

Death is a universal reality, yet many struggle to come to terms with it. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one or facing one’s own mortality, the topic is challenging for most, including Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Hollywood icon and former California governor recently opened up about his views on death, revealing a candid and pragmatic outlook.

The Role of Religion

For many, religion offers comfort in the face of death. Different faiths provide beliefs about life after death, from Christians’ hope of heaven to Hindu and Buddhist teachings on reincarnation. These beliefs offer a sense of continuity beyond the grave. However, Arnold Schwarzenegger holds a much different perspective.

Schwarzenegger’s Thoughts on Mortality

In a recent interview with fellow actor Danny DeVito, Schwarzenegger spoke about death. Reflecting on a conversation with Howard Stern, he recalled being asked, “What happens when we die?” Schwarzenegger’s response was blunt: “Nothing. You’re six feet under. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a f—ing liar.”

He went on to say, “We don’t know what happens to the soul or any of that spiritual stuff, but I do know that we will never see each other like this again.” He expressed skepticism about the idea of heaven, calling it a comforting fantasy. “The reality is, we won’t see each other again after we’re gone. That’s the sad part. I know some people are comfortable with death, but I’m not.”

Overcoming Life’s Obstacles

Schwarzenegger has achieved great success in his life, from bodybuilding championships to Hollywood stardom, and even becoming California’s governor. Despite these accomplishments, he is not immune to the fears and uncertainties surrounding death.

The Mystery of What Comes After

For many, the unknown aspects of death make it even more difficult to accept. While some who have had near-death experiences share visions of other worlds, divine encounters, or even “following the light,” Schwarzenegger remains skeptical. “To me, heaven is where I keep the memory of people I love, those who made a difference in my life. I carry them in my mind, like they’re sitting in the front row of my life,” he explained.

From Humble Beginnings to Worldwide Fame

Schwarzenegger’s journey to fame was far from glamorous. In his conversation with DeVito, he shared that he began working at age 10, selling ice cream bars to afford things his family couldn’t provide. Born in Austria, he grew up in modest conditions, without running water or modern conveniences. His childhood home, a centuries-old farmhouse, is now preserved as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Museum.

A Career of Triumphs

Schwarzenegger’s career skyrocketed as he dominated the bodybuilding world, winning over ten titles, including Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia. From there, he moved into acting, appearing in around 40 films before eventually becoming the 38th governor of California. His life has been full of remarkable achievements, but also significant losses.

The Impact of Loss

Schwarzenegger has experienced significant personal loss throughout his life, including the deaths of between 15 and 20 friends from the bodybuilding community, as well as the loss of his parents and his marriage. These experiences have likely shaped his perspective on the afterlife and death.

Moving Forward

Despite his pragmatic view of death, Schwarzenegger continues to live life to the fullest. He is currently working on a new project—a Netflix documentary series titled Arnold, which will explore his life’s highs and lows. The docuseries will feature interviews with co-stars, friends, and even rivals, offering a comprehensive look at who Schwarzenegger really is.

From a humble beginning to a life of fame and power, Arnold Schwarzenegger has faced both triumph and pain. His no-nonsense approach to death may be sobering, but it also reflects a lifetime of resilience.
