Basher worried for years that he would never find a family. The mastiff who stands at 6 feet tall weighs 132 pounds. He is so heavy in love, but most people only see his enormous size.
He arrived at RSPCA Cornwall in2021 as a transfer dog from another shelter. The rescuers were intent on finding him a permanent home but it was not easy. Only the staff realized that Basher wasn’t scary.
“People would probably see him and think that he is big and scary, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. He doesn’t have a bad bone in his body” RSPCA Cornwall staff member Sammy Howard said.
Soon after arriving, Basher thought this is his family. Sadly the first family returned him to the shelter within a few days. The rescue staff were undeterred. They thought Basher would find a forever home soon. Until then, they made sure that the big boy got to enjoy all his favorite activities.
He loves going on for gentle walks down the lane to visit the cows. The staff thinks that he got a feeling like he is one of them. He snoozes and he would love to spend lots of time in his bed. When he is not sleeping he would be very nosey. Peeking out of his kennel to see what is going on in the rescue.
The staff is especially sad to look at Basher as he is ignored by people. They love him and wanted him to have the best.
After spending 448 days at the shelter his day arrived. Basher found his perfect fit and the staff was overjoyed. “The feeling was indescribable,” Howard said. The team that worked closest to him was in tears when he left.
Basher by the way is doing amazingly in his new home. His family has taken extra care to make sure he is comfortable there. Now he can spend the rest of his life as a loving pet with his new family.
His family knows that he is the perfect size for them and they knew that he is heavy in love too!
