Driving at night can be a danger. Especially, when wild animals are roaming around. It is impossible to spot one in your path when you are speeding down the road before it’s too late.
This is a common issue in Finland. It has been estimated that around 4,000 reindeers die every year due to vehicle accidents. It costs $18 million in damages.
But someone had a great idea about this. It was a group named, Finnish Reindeer Herders Association. One of the simplest yet ingenious stood out was to spray animals with reflective paint. It is essentially like, giving the animal a high visibility jacket in the hope that it glows when the light hits on them.
At first, they were about to test it on fur. But then they decided to put it on antlers. Because they can be seen from every side. And they say that it was the best campaign so far. There are some problems with the durability and utility. But the product development continues.
