Lauren Kasdan was out delivering food one night in a quiet neighborhood. She was expecting a quiet night. It was around 11 p.m. and she got out of her car to drop the food off on the customer’s porch. Then she texted them that it had arrived and then walked back to her car, parked right nearby. She was gone, maybe two or three minutes. And, when she got back, there was a cat waiting for her in her passenger seat.
It was hard to process to her that there was just a cat in her car. She thought she was hallucinating for a second.
The front windows of the car had been partially open, so apparently the cat had seen this as an invitation and hopped right in. when she got back to her, the cat later named Athena wasn’t startled at all. She had been waiting for her.
She acted like she was supposed to be there. She was sniffing around the seat and the middle console like she belonged there. When she came back she was like “Oh, hey you! Is this your car? it is nice and warm”
She was not afraid or didn’t try to run. She climbed onto her lap and started purring. Athena was incredibly thin, dirty, and covered in fleas. Kasdan assumed she had been living alone for a while. She couldn’t leave her on her own. She headed straight to Walgreens, picked up some cat food and litter, and headed to her mom’s house to get Athena all settled in. Athena also knew that she needed help. She was grateful to Kasdan and her mom for giving it to her.
Kasdan cleaned her with flea and tick shampoo and scrubbed her well. She settled in and started purring and after the bath, Kasdan wrapped her with a towel and she fell asleep like that in her arms.
Kasdan checked to see if Athena was microchipped, but didn’t find one. Based on her condition it was also doubtful that she has a family. But she posted about her in lost and found pet pages. Before found her they were dog people, but as soon as her mom met Athena and saw how sweet she was, she knew that if there is no one they were keeping her.
Athena is settling in so well to her new home. She wanted constant love for her life. That day she hopped into Kasdan’s car has changed her life completely. Finally, she is happy with her humans.
