Music legend Sir Elton John has revealed that he is dealing with “limited vision” in one eye due to a serious eye infection.
The 77-year-old singer took to Instagram to update fans, explaining that while his recovery is underway, it has been a slow and gradual process.
“Over the summer, I’ve been battling a severe eye infection, which has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” Elton shared. “I’m healing, but it’s a very slow journey, and it will take time before my sight fully returns.”
Known for timeless hits like “Rocket Man,” Elton expressed his gratitude for the medical professionals and his family who have been by his side. “I’m incredibly thankful for the wonderful doctors, nurses, and my family who have been taking such good care of me,” he said.
Following his post, fans and celebrities alike flooded the comments with messages of support. One fan wrote, “Prayers for your healing, Sir Elton. ❤️🩹,” while another added, “Wishing you a swift recovery! 🙏.” Many others sent words of encouragement and love.
Fashion designer Donatella Versace offered her well-wishes, writing: “Sending you all my love, Elton! Feel better soon. Love you.” Tennis icon Billie Jean King also chimed in, saying: “Sending love and support your way. Feel better soon, my friend.”

This isn’t Elton’s first health challenge.
In 2017, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and opted for surgery instead of chemotherapy to prevent the disease from spreading. Despite a grueling schedule of over 120 performances a year, the experience brought him dangerously close to death, forcing him to reevaluate his life priorities.

In his 2019 memoir, Me, Elton wrote, “My kids made the decision for me. I didn’t want cancer hanging over us for years. I wanted it gone.”
However, complications from the surgery led to swelling and months of hospital visits. Just before his 70th birthday, a routine colonoscopy unexpectedly resolved the issue. Yet, as he started to recover, he contracted a life-threatening infection in South America, once again coming close to death.
Reflecting on those times, Elton said, “In a strange way, it was an answer to my prayers: if you want more time, you have to slow down and live differently.” This epiphany led him to announce his retirement from touring, stating he wanted to spend more time with his children.

In 2023, Sir Elton experienced another health scare after a fall at his villa in Nice, France. He was briefly hospitalized but released shortly afterward.
