What is the life you dream? A big house? An elegant car? How about zero bills? And a swimming pool of course! Oh, and the best is dogs! Mackenzie Makatche lives with nine of huge fluffy Newfoundlands.
“The most common questions I get are:” Is this a bear? “(No) ‘How big is your house?’ (I would not call it big but we have a lot of space) and ‘Are you crazy?’ (obviously), “said Makatche.
“I grew up with the first Newfoundlander in our family, I was about a year older and he died at the age of 13. My parents were so much attracted to the breed because they wanted a dog that is good with children and behaves like a lab” .
But what surprises most people is that she done any breeding. The family has bought them all and Makatche knows three of Newfoundland since their childhood.
“We have never done it and we still do not intend to reproduce often, but only when we have time to raise a litter,” Makatche said. “The team has grown steadily over the past nine years as my mother falls more and more in love with the breed.”
But she decided to create an Instagram, especially for her nine canine kids. And it turned out to be extremely popular.
“I really had no intention other than to share pictures of my dog with anyone I wanted to see, I was at university and I knew that most people who knew me personally did not care to see daily pictures of dogs on my account.
The account now has more than 40,000 subscribers who accumulate all “newf” updates. However, Makatche has bigger plans for her dogs. Aside from Guinness, Duncan, Storm, Murphy, Coeli, Skyy, Aisling, Oliver and Belle, three of them have already completed their therapy dog training. Two more are in training right now.
She wants the nine to be trained dogs for therapy so that they can help others, especially children.
