A Mouse’s Unlikely Adventure in a Cannabis Field
Farmers often worry about pests like rodents and bugs that can damage crops and spread diseases. But in New Brunswick, Canada, an unexpected visitor turned up in a cannabis field—a tiny mouse found lying on its back, seemingly “stoned” and completely knocked out.
The Tale of a “Stoned” Mouse in a Cannabis Patch
Colin Sullivan, who tends the garden, noticed a small mouse helping itself to leaves from his cannabis plant over the course of two days. He captured pictures of the mouse happily munching away before eventually finding it passed out on a stack of leaves.
Concerned for the mouse’s well-being, Sullivan decided to place it in a cage to help it recover. After six days of close care, the mouse was released back into the wild.
Sullivan shared the amusing incident on Facebook: “For two days in a row, I caught this little troublemaker snacking on leaves from my plant until he passed out.”
Noting that the mouse was missing an ear, Sullivan joked that perhaps the mouse was self-medicating for PTSD. However, he decided it was time to step in and help. “I’ll let him sleep it off this time,” he quipped, “but when he wakes up, I’m going to have a serious talk with him.”
A few days later, Sullivan updated his followers, revealing that the mouse was still in his care, recovering.
“Our little baked friend has been going through a rough patch—dealing with a stomach ache and a fierce appetite—but I think he’s on the mend. He’s now down to just one medium leaf a day, and it seems like he’s adjusting. One day at a time, my friend, one day at a time.”
Three days later, the mouse’s “rehab” came to an end. Sullivan announced the mouse’s release with a series of humorous puns.
“On The Rodent To Redemption”
After battling addiction, this tiny mouse has conquered its struggles and is ready to move forward. Sullivan emphasized the importance of supporting those trying to “clear the smoke” in their lives. “He worked hard and earned his first Twelve Step chip.”
“I might have been the one who unlocked his cage, but he was the one who freed himself. Goodbye, my friend. See you later!”
The “Stoner Mouse” Goes Viral
The story quickly went viral, with Sullivan’s initial post receiving over 461,000 shares, and the final post gathering more than 6,400 shares and 1,500 comments, filled with laughter and jokes.
One commenter, Cody Myshrall, wrote, “I’m glad to hear he’s getting better.”
Rhyll O’Keefe humorously added, “I can totally imagine Cheech the mouse saying, ‘Wow, that was a crazy adventure… I have no idea where I was, but somehow I ended up in jail.’”
Another commenter, Wendy Chaplin, remarked, “It’s tough to quit! Thanks for looking out for the little stoner!”
Beyond the laughs, Sullivan’s story took a heartfelt turn when he wrote a touching tribute to his wife, Robyn Sullivan, who helped him in his own battle with substance detox. He credited her with saving his life and being the key to his long-term sobriety.
Many people who came for the funny mouse story ended up applauding Sullivan for his own journey of staying sober.
Cannabis Laws in New Brunswick
In Canada, cannabis became legal in 2018, but each province and territory has its own regulations. In New Brunswick, the government has focused on creating a safe and responsible culture for adults, emphasizing public education about health and maximizing economic benefits from the new industry.
To consume cannabis legally in New Brunswick, individuals must be at least 19 years old, and purchases must be made from licensed vendors. The possession limit is 30 grams per person, and public consumption, as well as use in vehicles, is strictly prohibited. Landlords can ban tenants from smoking or growing cannabis on their property, though they cannot prevent it if tobacco smoking is allowed.
It’s essential for residents to understand the potential risks associated with cannabis to make informed decisions about their use.
